Welcome to the wonderful Platypus Island! We are a prosperous people that live peacefully in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean!
We have an oligarchy as a government. We chose this because only a few people would rule and it'd be less chaotic, without one person ruling and being bossy.
Our economic system is socialism. We chose this because it's somewhere in the middle of communism and capitalism. People can buy and sell what they want, as long as it's okay with the government.
Basic necessities will be provided in the following ways:
Water - We create a giant rain catcher made of banana leaves.
Shelter - We create huts out of stone and mud, and people are assigned to build their own.
Food - People will hunt and gather for their own families.
(Erin)
Jobs will be reccommended, but no one is required to have a job. For a living, people whill mostly be hunters and farmers. They make money by trading things of equal or greater value, and seashells are the country's currency. (Maureen)
We plan to build shelters by using sticks, stones, and leaves. They will be held together by a mud and sand mixture almost like cement. (Codey)
You catch and gather your own food, and obtain water through the banana-leaf catch and storing it in hand-made clay pots. (Mitch)
Education is for everyone and very important so we can all get along and have good jogs. Free and public education paid by the government for everyone. Curriculum includes language arts, math, science, history, art, music, and physical education. (Lucia)
(Jemi)
The only time any military will be put into place is if we have to defend ourselces. We are otherwise neutral.(Maureen)
The name of the society, Platypus Island, was named after the native species of platypi living on the island. They are very resilient creatures and good at survival, and just as hearty as the people who now inhabit the island in harmony with the platypus. (Erin)

Our land is mainly flat and covered in beachgrasses. The climate is temperate, 75 degrees during the day and 67 degrees at night. It is a safe environment with the acception of a few wild boars. (Maureen)
Our motto is "Forever Prosperous" to symbolize out great survival skills and hopefulness in pursuing a happy life. Here is the seal.
(Erin)
The Utopian animal is the platypus, naturally, as the island has a lake with many platypi, and the platypus symbolizes our survival skills. (Mitch)
The purpose for building this island is so we can all get along with one another and life in that amazing utopia mindset. We believe we should be free to make our own decisions and chose our own rulers, as well as the laws that we are all enforced by. There will be no fighting and no chaos, and everything will be peaceful. Everyone can live out their days harmoniously, and live the way we chose to. By creating this new government, we can erase the flaws of our old one. (Bekah)
The major problem in the country is bullying. On the island there is a zero-tolerance bullying policy. Everyone's opinion is heard and considered, and no one is discriminated against. No one gets judged. The most important need on the island is a no-bullying policy so people can all get along and no one is sad, and everyone lives harmoniously together without any unneeded drama and fighting. (Sara)
Our leaders are elected every 2 years onto a council of 10 people, all equally in power. The major conflicts are fights over food and shelter due to limited supplies and space. (Sara)
Our preamble states "We the people of the Platypus Islands, in order to become a perfect civilization, must come together and become prosperous by working altogether as one." (Mitch)
Disputes are solved by finding a fair compromise. The quarrel is taken to the council, who decides, and there is a "don't touch my stuff and I won't touch yours" policy. (Codey)
Law enforcement will be enforced by the council. There is a list of punishments for any matter of offences, dealt with case-by-case, and a severity clause for very severe offenses such as murder or kidnapping.
First offense - Warning and extra chores for a week
Second offense - Extra chores for a month and a fine (determined by offense)
Third offense - Meeting with council, fine, and extra chores for another consecutive month.
Fourth offense - You will be locked up in public jail for a sentence determined by the council.
